When thinking about the autumn, cool and rainy weather and shorter days come to mind. Wouldn’t you rather think of the sun, mild temperatures, enchanting wine regions, beaches and warm water? Before packing away your summer wardrobe and digging out your winter clothes, why do not go for a short break in the South? When high season comes to an end and flight and accommodation prices decrease is the best time to go on holiday. We have selected five of our charming hotels and bed and breakfasts that we think are ideal for a fall getaway.

Domaine Saint Hilaire terrace and pool

Surrounded by 80 hectare vineyards, you will find the dreamy Domaine Saint Hilaire. The 200 year old property is not only full of history, but also full of charm. The own wine production convinces with the excellent quality and award winning wines. This small and charming BB and its four individually designed rooms is worth definitely worth a visit. Besides the hotels own library, you can watch French and English movies in the home cinema, or if you prefer to spend your time outside, explore the huge, 200 year old park or dive into the pool. If you feel like tasting the excellent domain wines at the end of the day, the owners offer a wine tasting.

In September the hosts lift the secret around their award-winning wines. Guests are free to participate in the workshops for wine harvesting. It begins with a breakfast, followed by the harvest of eight different grape varieties and a short presentation of the winemaker. After lunch, a wine tasting takes place. A gourmet dinner in a relaxed atmosphere finishes the day.

All rooms are designed in a different style, which gives each of them its personal charm. The rooms have private bathrooms with waterfall showers. In addition, air conditioning and central heating as well as high quality mattresses equal to those found in many luxury hotels are just a few of the amenities. Furthermore, white towels, cotton silk blankets, bathrobes and daily housekeeping service are included.

The Surroundings
Just like the Domaine Saint Hilaire, the region is also known for its excellent wines, mostly from Grenache, Syrah and Vermentino grapes. However, you can also find wines, which are unusual for the region, such as Chardonnay, Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon. Apart from the wonderful wine region, you can visit the beautiful beaches of Sète, Mèze and Marseillan, which are between 15 and 30 km away. If you plan to visit a beach more often, a rental car would be advisable.

Villa Maursque

In 1881 a pasha from the orient hired the famous architect Pierre Chapoulart to transform this once historical building into the Villa Mauresque in a Moorish style. Nowadays the Villa Mauresque welcomes selected guests. Despite of its central location, it is truly an oasis, well hidden from the public. Guests seeking privacy and tranquillity will have found the perfect spot. Thus, a long list of VIPs such as Shakira, Natalie Portman or Karlie Kloss, have been guests of the Villa.

The Villa offers 11 rooms, which are divided into 5 categories. All rooms are named after famous artists and authors and are equipped with big beds, spacious bathrooms with marble and ceramic tiles. In some cases the rooms are even equipped with a private terrace and their own Jacuzzi. Other highlights are the surrounding well tended gardens and a heated pool and Jacuzzi. Villa Mauresque

Boulouris is a small picturesque village in Saint Rafael just across the bay from Saint Tropez. From here it takes only 30 minutes to go to Cannes or Saint Tropez. With the direct access to the sea and the view of the bay of Saint Tropez, the Villa Mauresque has an exclusive location. It is one of few villas at the seaside, with direct access to the French Riviera.

What may seem weird on the first sight there is story behind it. Apart from these three elements the rest of the room amenities are everything but old. High quality bed linen, excellent mattresses, air conditioning and a big rain shower round off the rooms amenities.


The Follonico is located in the countryside. Surrounded by wonderful fields, it is ideal for walking. It may be advisable to rent a car during your stay.

4. Donna Carmela
