Can you smell them?

November 24, 2015

South of France reminds you of summer, deep blue ocean water, pine trees, Pastis and chilled Rosé. But it is in winter that the most precious of all foodstuffs grows between the roots of the truffle oak. The black truffle. Between December and February the smell almost overwhelms you when you walk towards the “Marchés aux Truffes” that take place in Moussoulens, the capital of the famous mushroom in the “Pays Cathare” north of Carcassonne.

Truffle markets in the Pays d’Aude and Languedoc-Roussillon

The Metairie Montplaisir on the outskirts of Carcassonne and in the heart of the Audoise truffle region invites you to be part of this experience from the harvest to the cooking classes or just simply enjoying the delicious dishes based on the freshly harvested truffles.

Amélie from the Metairie Montplaisir has prepared a choice of three truffle packages during the months of January and February to choose from. She is unique in the sense that she offers her guests the possibility to accompany the “trufficulteurs” allowing them to collect their own truffles.

Truffle dinner: daily starting from 50,00 € upon reservation.
Truffle cooking class and dinner accompanied by her own wines: 70,00 €
Truffle week-end: Starting at 240,00 € for two persons (depending on room type): one overnight stay, breakfast, truffle cooking class and “degustation” dinner for two. Those who wish can come along to collect the truffles.
Truffle and wine week end: Starting at 400,00 € for two persons: two overnight stays, breakfast, visit of the vineyards, Languedoc Roussillon wine tasting, journey to the Garrigue accompanying a truffle hunter and truffle dinner.

Where to stay: Métairie Montplaisir – Conques sur Orbiol, Hôtel du Chateau – Carcassonne or an hours drive to the east, right on the coast: Hôtel Troiz – Fitou.
